Honestly, with the amount of time that the designedge has saved me, I'm am confident that you would probably pay for it in your first project.ĭid you get a newer plasmacam that has the basic designedge (because even that program is pretty sweet for a program that comes stock with the machine now days) or are you running on their old 98-z models, or DHC models that ran 3.11 (I believe these were made back in 1998)? My kindergartener son even uses it to cut out his paraphernalia ( I am about to tell the little bugger to start saving his allowance to get his own plasmacam machine because he uses it so much!). In hind sight, I am not sure that anyone could pay me any amount of money to use anything else! Everything from image conversion, to the huge collection of different fonts that it comes with, to the automatic parts library, makes that program extremely use for making money. I have used a ton of different cad software programs in my day and for metal cutting, plasmacam's designedge is flawless and extremely easy to use. I ma pretty sure that Plasmacam even offers a money back guarantee on it on all of their upgrades too. There is no doubt that the Designedge upgrade is totally worth (100x over) if you use your machine at all. electronics software ( open source/ free).Blender 3D CAD, Freeware, Open Source Software.Open-source foam cutting software for XP.Project to make open source 5 axis router/plasma plans.Would anyone recommend a set/suite of open source tools to use with basic PCam (GoTorch) software? I can think of using just Visio or Inkscape for drawing and then somehow converting it to gcode (so I can clearly control the order of things being cut) BTW, I tried converters like Ace and it doesn't understand curves from dxf, so that's pretty useless. I'm totally at a loss as what my options are in terms of trying to cut some simple parts with PCam using open source software or tools. I tried changing the order of individual paths on xml editor in Inkscape then save then in dxf, without luck (still goes on random cutting spree) I got gcodetools for Inkscape and followed a bunch of tutorials, no luck in generating gcode, I get gcode fiel with header and footer and no gcode. So importing a complex dxf would send the torch trying to cut individual segments in nonsensical order. basic, and I'm talking about that it doesn't understand the order of the cut paths. The problem is that PlasmaCam's basic software is well. I was able to cut a few simple parts so far just fine, now it's time for a bit more complex parts. dxf, then import from PCams' software to cut them out. I'm using Visio to draw few parts, save as. I got PlasmaCam CNC plasma table, most basic, no height control and the software that comes with it is a basic driver, import.
